Take Out Storage Insurance at MyPlace
Protecting your belongings is a top priority at MyPlace SelfStorage. After all, the goal is to safeguard the value of your property even in the event of unforeseen incidents such as burglary, vandalism, fire or water damage. For this reason, we recommend that our tenants either extend their existing household insurance to include stored goods or take out a basic insurance policy through one of our trusted insurance partners.
Why is insurance for your self storage unit advisable?
Even though all MyPlace locations in Austria are equipped with state-of-the-art security systems such as video surveillance, access control and alarm systems, unforeseen events such as water damage, fire or burglary can still occur in rare cases. An individual insurance policy protects your stored belongings from financial losses in such situations.
As a storage provider, we have no knowledge of the type, quantity or value of the items you store. Therefore, the contents of your storage unit are not automatically insured by us. For this reason, there are several ways to ensure that your personal or business belongings remain properly protected, even in exceptional circumstances.

Check whether your current insurance policy also covers stored goods outside your home. This is not always automatically included.

This insurance can easily be booked through MyPlace and provides reliable protection for your stored goods.
What value of goods is covered by the storage unit insurance?
The premium for the basic insurance (€8 for a rental period of 4 weeks) covers goods with a value of up to €4,000. You can increase this amount at any time: for every additional €1,000 of insured value, the premium increases by only €1.50.
Please note that certain items cannot be insured, including:
- Cash
- Stamps
- Precious metals (gold or silver)
- Jewelry
With the basic insurance you are protected against the following risks
- Fire: Damage caused by fire, lightning, explosion, their unavoidable consequences, as well as damage caused by the crash or impact of manned aircraft.
- Burglary / Vandalism: Damage occurring during a completed or attempted burglary.
- Water damage from pipes: Damage caused by water leaking from supply or drainage pipes of water systems, hot water systems or central heating systems. (If items are stored below street level, they must be kept at least 12 cm above the floor.)
- Storm: Damage caused by storms, hail, snow pressure, rockfall, falling stones or landslides.
- Rain and snow: In addition to the contractually agreed storm coverage, damage caused by rain, snow or meltwater inside the building is also insured if the water entered through the roof, gutters or external drainage pipes.
